Urinary Incontinence Treatment and Relief at Renew Aesthetics Med Spa in Rogers, AR

We get it. Urinary incontinence treatment isn’t a topic that people discuss daily, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not important. It greatly affects the quality of life of many women and men.

Our bodies go through many events as we age through life. Some are incredible, (like having a baby!) but all of them require perseverance in some way. An unfortunate after effect from health events such as pregnancy, childbirth, prostate issues, and menopause is urinary incontinence.

Before you seek any sort of urinary incontinence treatment, however, it’s important to know the types and causes of urinary incontinence in order to make informed decisions for your body’s specific needs.

Renew Aesthetics, led by Dr. Haney, has treated hundreds of patients in Rogers and surrounding areas of Arkansas for urinary incontinence. Below, we’ll share…

What is urinary incontinence?

At a high level, urinary incontinence (UI) is the loss of control over one’s bladder, and it can lead to leaking urine or a sudden immediate urge to go. While UI tends to affect women more, it can (and does) affect some men, too!

Types of Urinary Incontinence

Before we get into the details of our various urinary incontinence treatments we offer at our Rogers, AR office, we should clarify that there are actually two main types of urinary incontinence stemming from a variety of factors.

Stress incontinence

Stress incontinence is the most common type of urinary incontinence, and it’s also more prevalent in younger people. It happens when there is some sort of pressure on the bladder and urethra. This makes the body work harder and causes “stress” to the area. Movements that put stress on the area like sneezing, coughing, exercising, or laughing can cause urine to leak with stress incontinence.

Urge incontinence

Also known as “overactive bladder,” this type of incontinence is when there is a sudden, bold urge to urinate without a full bladder triggering the urge. It may even happen before you can get to a restroom. Urge incontinence can also present itself as the need to urinate over 8 times a day even if you can make it to the bathroom in time; the issue then, is when you get to the bathroom, you may not even urinate very much.

It’s also possible to have a mixture of both of these types of urinary incontinence, known as mixed incontinence.

The Causes of UI

Urinary Incontinence Causes in Women

According to the government Office of Women’s Health, urinary incontinence happens to twice as many women as men because of all of the different, unique health events in a woman’s life such as pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and other  events that affect the bladder, urethra, and other muscles in the area.

Menopause is believed to be a primary cause of urinary incontinence sometimes because of low levels of the hormone estrogen; this may diminish the strength of the urethra. The urethra’s job is to keep urine in the bladder until you are ready to go, so a weak urethra can cause urinary incontinence.

The anatomy of women’s urethras (which are shorter than men’s) makes them more susceptible to damage or weakness. This is because there is less muscle holding in the urine until a woman urinates. This can lead to urinary incontinence in women that, while bothersome and uncomfortable, can and should be treated.

Other urinary incontinence causes in men and women

Age

As we age, the muscles in our body begin to deteriorate, it’s only natural. For many people, aging can affect the strength of the muscles in the pelvic floor and, therefore, control over the bladder.

Extra weight

Extra weight in the body can weaken muscles used to urinate by adding more pressure to them.

Constipation

Unfortunately, long-term constipation can also affect the bladder and put stress on it, as well as the pelvic floor muscles.

Nerve damage

If a nerve is damaged, it might not send the signals on time to your bladder or at all. Health issues like multiple sclerosis and diabetes can also cause damage to nerves in the urethra, bladder, or pelvic floor.

Surgery

Surgeries that involve reproductive organs like a hysterectomy or a prostate surgery can damage pelvic floor muscles and cause urinary incontinence.

Who can benefit from a urinary incontinence treatment?

It’s simple—anyone with urinary incontinence can benefit from treatment! While UI predominantly affects women and older age groups, it can be a problem that anyone may experience throughout their lifetime.

As long as you are the appropriate age, a urinary incontinence treatment can help a variety of candidates get back the quality of life they deserve.

Renew Aesthetics offers the best non-surgical urinary incontinence treatment in Rogers, AR

It’s costly and uncomfortable to wear pads or be interrupted throughout your day to run to the restroom. You shouldn’t have to miss out on any moments, big or small, because of urinary incontinence.

Tired of “solutions” that only seem to put a bandage over the issue but don’t resolve it? Looking for a non-surgical alternative?

At Renew Aesthetics, we offer TWO non-surgical treatments to help urinary incontinence; they yield actual results in just a few sessions. Before deciding on a treatment, an aesthetic expert will complete a consultation with you to find out your unique needs and help you decide the treatment that’s right for you.

Below, we’ll detail the two UI treatments we offer in Rogers, AR and discuss the common questions we receive from our patients about each.

Emsella®

Kegel exercises improve the muscles in the pelvic floor, especially if you’re extremely regimented. But what if you had a solution that rehabilitates the pelvic muscles and restores control for men and women on a much larger scale?

Emsella® replicates the same exercise on a huge proportion (we’re talking in the thousands) in just 1 thirty-minute session by using electromagnetic stimulation. Emsella’s goal is exclusively to treat urinary incontinence. It is FDA-cleared and is a safe non-surgical treatment for urinary incontinence.

Am I a suitable candidate for Emsella®?

Anyone who suffers from urinary incontinence is a good candidate for this treatment. Specifically, this treatment works for both male and female clients, and we’ve had many women who’ve had multiple pregnancies get this treatment.

What happens during Emsella® treatment?

Before scheduling your appointment, you will meet with one of our team’s medical experts to discuss your concerns and decide if this treatment is right for you. You can also ask any questions you may have!

Throughout your UI treatment with Emsella, you will remain clothed, and all you need to do is sit on a chair-like device for 30 minutes. During this time, you can read a book or simply relax to pass the time.

Is the Emsella® treatment painful?

Nope! You will notice a sensation since this treatment is exercising your pelvic floor muscles, but it’s nothing to write home about. You may experience mild tingling or soreness afterward, and during the procedure you’ll feel your pelvic floor muscles contracting–which is good! Emsella® treatments boast a quick session with no downtime!

How many sessions of Emsella® do I need?

We recommend a package of 6 Emsella® treatments for maximum results 😊

Emsella® is for anyone with urinary incontinence

Because urinary incontinence affects women more because of health events like childbirth, many don’t realize that it can happen to men too! At Renew Aesthetics, we want our male clients to know that we have them covered to treat male urinary incontinence with the Emsella® treatment. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their daily lives!
