Mature Skin Treatments in Rogers: Skin Care Tips & Procedures

Mature skin refers to skin that displays signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, and dryness. This is normal! As we age, our bodies’ collagen and elastin production slows down, as well as cell turnover. This change, in addition to environmental factors, causes fine lines, discoloration, and other common concerns for mature skin.

Though we think you already look great, there are several skin care steps and treatments that can reduce common signs of aging 😊

Below, our skin professionals at Renew Aesthetics discuss tips for aging skin and mature skin treatments in Rogers available at our Arkansas med spa.

What makes “mature skin” unique?

As mentioned earlier, the things that characterize mature skin are signs of aging. From fine lines and wrinkles, to skin laxity and sun damage, mature skin is simply skin that has aged to some degree.

What makes mature skin unique is that it is often thinner because it has less collagen and elastin proteins. This makes the skin more susceptible to gravity and gives less “bounce” to the skin, appearing as skin laxity.

Skin care for mature skin

There are several key ideas to think of when picking skin care for mature skin

Invest in medical-grade products

You don’t have to spend an exorbitant amount of money to get quality skin care. If you really want products that will produce results, medical-grade skin care is worth it. With mid to higher-level prices, the price points go toward science-backed formulas with higher concentrations of active ingredients.

Brands we love and carry include:

Retinol & Tretinoin

You’ve likely heard about retinoid products before for their age-defying qualities. There are several retinoid types, and our favorites for mature skin are retinol and tretinoin

Retinoids neutralize environmental factors that can cause collagen damage. They can help preserve and even boost your skin’s collagen production.

This is fantastic because more collagen can help “fill in” lines and improve skin texture, tone, age spots, discoloration, and dehydration.

Retinol

You can find retinol in over-the-counter products. This product has a learning curve for most people, however. Retinol comes in a variety of strengths, so your skin will need to build up a tolerance. You might also choose your retinol based on your individual skin type, especially if you have sensitive skin. If the retinol still feels too strong on your skin, you can try layering it over your moisturizer for some barrier.

For your first few months, you can use a retinol while your skin adapts.

Tretinoin

After using retinol for a few months, you can graduate to a prescription Retin-A (Tretinoin), which is a stronger retinoid 🎓 Some people choose to upgrade to tretinoin after they stop seeing results.

Tretinoin is the most powerful retinoid; you can only get it with a prescription. If you have sensitive skin, you might not tolerate this product well. It is widely used to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and more by speeding up cell turnover!

A learning curve for retinoids

When you first begin a retinol and/or tretinoin, some light flaking and peeling is normal. This is known as a “purging” stage. Some breakouts may come to the surface and certain spots may peel.

You shouldn’t get extreme redness, inflammation, or burning. This means you might have used too much product too often.

The purging stage may last for a few weeks since your skin hasn’t built up a tolerance yet. You can start slow by using the product every 2 to 3 nights at first, to eventually using every night or every other night.

Note: If your skin feels sensitive and uncomfortable with these products for weeks on end, you may be retinoid resistant.

The importance of sunscreen

If you’re serious about caring for your skin, sunscreen is non-negotiable ❤️

This is especially true if you plan on using retinoids. While these products have collagen-boosting benefits, they also make your skin more sun-sensitive. It’s important to find a daily SPF you love and use it every day

We’ll save you the long lecture, but this is your reminder: daily sunscreen protects your skin from skin cancer, sun spots, discoloration, premature aging, and so much more. It is one of the best products for anti-aging. Every skin professional agrees: sunscreen is a must-use product.

Dedication

For all skin types, you’ll need dedication to get the results you want from your skincare routine. Be diligent, make it a priority morning and night, and be patient 😊 Results don’t happen overnight, but good habits pay off!

Professional treatments for mature skin

VI Peel

The VIP of chemical peels, this skin treatment is safe for all skin types! VI Peel works by removing damaged outer layers of the skin to reveal youthful, smooth skin beneath.

Vi Peel treats a wide variety of mature skin concerns:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Melasma
  • Dark spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Rosacea
  • Enlarged pores

Treatment Process

We combine skin-loving ingredients for your VI Peel: Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), Retinoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C, and other minerals. To create more youthful, even-toned skin, we may recommend a series of 3 to 6 Vi Peel treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart.

For the treatment itself, we thoroughly cleanse your skin to begin. We then apply the peel in 2 stages—one to penetrate the skin surface and another to go deep into the dermis.

Discomfort is minimal to none; most patients describe it as a tolerable stinging sensation. The entire treatment takes 20 to 45 minutes. You will experience peeling 2 to 3 days after, as your results improve with renewed skin coming to the surface.

Final results and improvement in texture and tone take 4 to 6 weeks. As always, your customized treatment plan by a Renew provider will deliver the most optimal results.

Sculptra

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that stimulates collagen production. The benefit is anti-aging results that last up to 2 years! It uses a poly-L-lactic acid formula to help improve facial fullness, skin laxity, and fine lines & wrinkles.

After

Treatment Process

The number of injections and sessions for Sculptra will depend on your personalized treatment plan. For the procedure, we’ll inject Sculptra deep into the dermis (this is where your collagen framework lies). Sculptra will work its magic for a few weeks or months as you see the age-rewinding results.

Most patients receive 3 injections over 3 or 4 months for maximum benefits.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal filler is an extremely versatile mature skin treatment. It can correct sunken cheeks, thin lips, scars, and wrinkles. Less volume in your skin amplifies skin laxity and a “sunken in” look. Dermal filler restores lost facial volume to give your skin a youthful appearance.

We carry two of the top dermal filler brands at Renew Aesthetics:

These dermal fillers boost collagen and elastin production with hyaluronic acid, a natural chemical in the body. The HA boosts facial volume while providing long lasting anti-aging results.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators, also known as neurotoxins, are FDA-approved injectables that relax muscles to reduce lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. This creates a smoother, more youthful appearance while preventing lines and wrinkles from deepening.

We can customize your neuromodulator treatment by brand based on your skin goals. We offer the following brands at Renew.

Infini microneedling

Infini microneedling goes deeper than the surface of the skin to deliver heat through radiofrequency energy. This heat kicks collagen production into overdrive to produce tighter, firmer skin while reducing lines and laxity. Infini is a fantastic treatment for the face, neck, and chest!

Treatment Process

We’ll apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort before we begin your Infini treatment. After the topical sets in, your Renew provider will run the handpiece over the treatment area(s). The high-intensity radiofrequency energy will penetrate the dermis. Infini patients report it feels like quick snaps or a mild sting.

For the 24 hours after your Infini treatment for mature skin, you may notice redness. Your skin texture may also feel rough for 2 to 3 days. This will clear away to reveal smoother, tighter, more even skin. Your collagen will continue to rebuild and improve your skin.

We typically recommend 2 to 4 Infini treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
